Long-Term Study Of Mexican Oil Spill May Reveal Future Deepwater Horizon Impacts

CORPUS CHRISTI, Tex. -- The Harte Research Institute (HRI) for Gulf of Mexico Studies at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will receive approximately $1.25 million over the next three years to work with Mexican colleagues in the southern Gulf of Mexico to look for residual impacts from the Ixtoc I oil spill of 1979-1980 on coastal areas, fisheries and the deep sea. This long-term study will reveal what impacts may be in store 30 years after the 2010 Deepwater Horizon spill.

Genalta Power First To Quantify And Verify Greenhouse Gas Emissions From Flare Gas To Power Operations

CALGARY, Alta. -- Genalta Power has announced that the Cadotte Peace River Power Generating Facility has generated 8,208 tonnes of CO2e carbon offsets for the 2013 calendar year. The project, which converts solution gas into electricity, diverts approximately 680 Gigajoules (GJ) of unprocessed, sour gas away from flare each day. The facility was commissioned in 2012 and is owned and operated by Genalta Power.
