The U.K. Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) announces the successful completion of the data acquisition stage of the U.K. Government-funded seismic campaign, on time and without incident. The £20 million program in underexplored areas of the United Kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS) will significantly improve the previously sparse seismic coverage in the Rockall Trough and Mid-North Sea High regions.

The oilsands are in a pickle. For the last decade, Canada’s largest source of hydrocarbon production has relied primarily on in situ, steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) for its growth. Since the plunge in world oil prices, however, many of the proposed future projects have been placed in doubt, with operators struggling to find more economical ways of extracting the viscous crude.
